Description
Come along and enjoy first light around Blea Tarn or Wrynose Pass.
We will meet at 7.00am at either Rydal Road car park, Ambleside if you would prefer to leave your car there, or 7.15 at Blea Tarn National Trust car park. We will take a short walk to the shore of Blea Tarn for some early morning shots, or if a promising sunrise is on the cards we might zip up to Wrynose Pass to capture the sunrise over Little Langdale valley.
We’ll walk through the woods around Blea Tarn and head up to the small pass where the road drops back around to the Langdales and hopefully there will be some good light on Crinkle Crags, Bowfell and The Band. We can either return to Blea Tarn the same way or take the longer route via the road which will take us past Blea Tarn House. This is particularly picturesque with snow on the fells behind.
Back at Blea Tarn we’ll head out of the back of the tarn and follow Blea Moss Beck for a short way towards Fell Foot Farm. The sun will be behind us now and we should get some good pictures of the beck.
We can now head back up to the car and take the short drive to the Three Shires Inn for a snack. With a bit of luck we can leave the car there for an hour or so and walk down to Slaters Bridge and Cathedral Cavern to finish off the afternoon. If we can’t get parked we’ll perhaps head to Skelwith Force or Tarn Hows for the last hour.
This will be a fairly relaxed day, although the day will pretty much cover the locations listed a certain amount of flexibility is required to take into account weather conditions, car park availability, and perhaps even just enjoying a location. Group opinion will rule, if you want stay longer at a location at the expense of somewhere else or substitute one location for another, then if everyone is happy that’s fine.
If you are coming along specifically to visit a particular location in the itinerary let me know in advance and I’ll try to adjust timings and route to make sure it’s included, or if you would like a small detour to somewhere not on the itinerary, let me know and we’ll try to accommodate it.
